President's Message:
On behalf of the members of the Charles county Branch of the NAACP, I am pleased to welcome you to our website. If you are familiar with the NAACP, you can be assured that we continue to work to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination. This is a formidable task, but one which is as ennobling as it is challenging.
In Charles County our principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of all persons. This also includes a special emphasis on securing greater equity and equality in the administration and application of the policies, procedures and practices of our systems of law enforcement and justice.
There is much to be done, and we continue to need the time and talents of those who love freedom and pursue justice. What started, nationally, as marches and demonstrations years ago, became legislative and legal reform in the recent past. Now, however, our task is to dismantle a much more subtle and insidious form of discrimination. A form which requires more complex and artful strategies, along with more sophisticated, experienced and dedicated practitioners. If this County and this Country are to fulfill their promise of equal opportunity for all of its citizens, your skills and talents are needed.
Martin Luther King once said: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter"
Join the Charles County Branch of the NAACP and lend your voice to things that matter!
Alfred T. Jackson, President
Charles County Branch of the NAACP
